Chitose Funabashi
Today, I will walk from Chitose Funabashi Station to the south direction, continuing along Kanpachi.
The name “Funabashi” is said to come from the fact that there used to be a swamp or a pond in this area and a bridge was built over it.
The swampy area along the Kanpachi area must have continued all the way from around Ogikubo.
We found a statue of Tevye in front of the station!
He is the main character of Fiddler on the Roof.
It was donated by Morishige Hisaya, who had lived here for a long time.
Found an apartment with a corner sticking out of the wall!
The windows in all the rooms are tilted at a 45 degree angle.
I calculate that the window area increases by about 1.4 times. Which is more beneficial to the room area reduction?
There was another quaint house next to this one with a spiral exterior staircase to go up to the rooftop, but unfortunately, I passed by it without taking a picture.
Sakuragaoka
I start walking on Kanpachi from the intersection of Kinuta 2-chome, the point where I finished walking last time.
Found a special vehicle dealer on the left!
They said this work truck is 1,850,000 yen. It is cheaper than I expected.
My license is limited to 8 tons, but I wonder if I can drive this. Even if I could, there is nothing to do.
There are many other vehicles, and it is interesting just to look at them.
I found Sakuragaoka Sumireba Park!
The park seemed to have a nice atmosphere, so we decided to take a tour.
The site was the residence of raxa merchant Densuke Uemura.
Admission was free.
There was a nature center in the center where about 10 people were looking at books.
I decided to take a walk around the garden.
There were a variety of greenery, but the flower that stood out was the bellflower.
Back on Kanpachi, car dealers continue to the left. There are many dealers of luxury cars. There seem to be many rich people in this area.
This is the Sanbonsugi overpass, a multi-level intersection with Setagaya-dori.
It is a gentle descent to this point, and the elevation has dropped from about 45 meters to 35 meters.
Yoga
Smokestacks of the Setagaya Garbage Disposal Plant have appeared.
There are many of them around the Kanpachi area. This is the third one following Takaido and Chitose.
However, only this one has a camouflage pattern.
Kinuta Park is a very green place.
It is far from any station, so many people come by bus or private car.
Kinuta Park is on the other side of the ring road, but there seem to be more flowers underfoot.
This is Salvia garanitica.
There was also Japanese spirea.
I don’t know the name of this one. The leaves look like waxflower, but the flowers are a little different.
Is it plains coreopsis? It is an exotic species.
My home area is now covered with the invasive species of the plains coreopsis. I don’t want to see more of them in Japan.
There was a stylish pedestrian bridge on the Kanpachi, so I decided to cross it toward Kinuta Park. The lights are stylish too.
Kinuta Park is a large metropolitan park.
On the right is the fence of the rose garden. But it was past its season.
There is Setagaya Art Museum in the park. It seems that the Peter Rabbit exhibition is being held there this time of year. However, I did not know much about it, so I decided to take a short rest.
Hydrangea was also in bloom.
The leaves have a certain sheen to them, and the flowers are hemispherical, so it does not appear to be an anabelle.
The Tomei Expressway can be seen.
If you head east along it, you can get to Yoga, the nearest station.
Heading south, Kanpachi has three lanes in each direction, and there is a lot of traffic.
Yoga entrance. From here is the Metropolitan Expressway. There should be Yoga exit on the down lane. You can’t see it, though.
Across the Kanpachi, there should be the Tokyo Interchange where the Tomei Expressway starts and ends. I did not see it, though.
For me, who has never been to this area before, “Yoga” seemed to me to be much further to the west.
But the Tama River flows nearby, and beyond it is Kanagawa Prefecture, so where I am now is pretty far west.
Yoga Station was an underground station.
I was lost for a while because I thought it was an aboveground station, even though the flow of people was heading here!
